Chandler, Arizona Arts Center Reopening Welcomes the Community |
A theater renovation and free community open house offer a fresh look inside |

Sometimes the best way to rediscover a familiar Chandler landmark is to walk through its doors without a ticket to a show.
The Chandler Center for the Arts is preparing for an October reopening after a $3 million renovation, with a free community gathering that makes that kind of visit possible.
New seating, refreshed interiors, and improvements to the stage and rigging are part of the work.
The arts center reopening offers a chance to look beyond the headline price tag and consider the experience of spending an evening in the theater.
An invitation to come inside
The community open house is scheduled for Saturday, October 24, from 3 to 6 p.m.
Visitors can take tours, enjoy family activities and light refreshments, and meet General Manager Julianna Crespo.
The location is 250 North Arizona Avenue, and admission to the open house is free.
For someone who has never attended a performance here, an informal visit could be a comfortable first step.
You can get a feel for the space, ask questions, and decide what would make a future visit enjoyable for your household.
Make the visit work for you
Before heading out, think about what you would like to learn rather than trying to see everything at once.
If you attend with children, ask them to notice something they would usually miss during a performance, such as the stage layout or the view from different seats.
If mobility, hearing, or sensory needs shape your outings, contact the venue beforehand and ask about arrangements for this particular event.
That conversation can help you plan a visit around your needs instead of making assumptions from a general event listing.
Consider inviting a neighbor who has been curious about the arts center but has never found a reason to go. |
An open house gives you something simple to do together without asking everyone to agree on a musical genre or performance.
Plan the journey, too
Free parking is available on site, with additional free options in downtown Chandler.
Accessible parking is located at the front of the building and on the north side of the rear parking area.
Give yourself time to find the entrance and meet your group, particularly if you arrive separately.
If you are planning a meal before or after your visit, check your chosen restaurant's hours and make any needed reservation independently.
The open house and a restaurant stop are separate plans, so build your afternoon around the time you actually want to spend at each.
A reason to look ahead
The reopening celebrations begin October 17, and the performance calendar includes Shanghai Ballet on October 23 and Sara Evans on October 25.
Those ticketed performances are separate from the free October 24 open house.
Treat the tour as a chance to gather information before choosing a show, rather than feeling you need to make a purchase that afternoon.
Chandler is also developing a cultural master plan that considers access, creative-sector support, public art, and the role of cultural spaces.
In that broader conversation, a welcoming visit to a local venue is a useful place to begin.
You do not have to be a regular theatergoer to be curious.
Save October 24, check the event details before leaving, and bring a question you would like answered.
A familiar building can become a new part of your routine. |

I appreciate the reminder to ask about sensory needs ahead of time. Makes outings much less stressful.
Amy PatelCalling ahead has helped us too. It's nice to know what to expect before getting everyone out the door.
I might stop in just to meet Julianna Crespo and hear what's coming up after the reopening.
Greg H.If you hear about the upcoming shows, please share. I'm curious what they'll book first.
The 3 to 6 time works well for us, we can stop by after the kids' afternoon activities.
Does anyone know if the tours include backstage? I'd love to see what they changed with the rigging.
Tom W.I was wondering that too. The article says tours, but doesn't say whether backstage is included.
Nice to see the inside getting refreshed. The Chandler Center has been part of so many family outings for us.
New seating was needed in my opinion, looking forward to seeing how comfortable it is now.
I hope they can explain the hearing options during the tour. That would help my dad plan a visit.
Lena P.That would be helpful. My mom uses hearing assistance too, and she'd want to know how it works before buying tickets.
Glad they're doing an open house without needing a show ticket. Makes it easier to bring a neighbor.
Ben CarterExactly. My neighbor's never been inside, so this feels like a good chance to show her around.
Taking the kids to see the stage up close sounds fun, they usually only see it from our seats.
Rosa M.My daughter would love that. She always asks what happens behind the curtain.
Three million is a lot of money. Hope the stage improvements make a real difference for performers.
kim_87Same here. I'd be interested to hear from performers after the first few shows back.
Free tours on October 24 sound nice, I've lived here years and never been inside.
We go to shows there a few times a year, really curious to try the new seats.
Maria G.Those old seats could get uncomfortable during a long show. I'm hoping the new ones have a little more room.
