Chandler Unified Selects Dr. Anna Battle as Next Superintendent

Dr. Anna Battle has been appointed as the new superintendent of the Chandler Unified School District (CUSD), set to begin her tenure on July 1, 2026.

 

Her selection follows an extensive search process that prioritized community input and identified three finalists.

 

Dr. Battle brings a wealth of experience, having served as deputy superintendent for the Roosevelt School District and holding leadership roles in the Tempe Union High School District and ASU Preparatory Academy.

 

She also served as principal at both Desert Vista High School and Tempe High School, where her leadership earned statewide and national recognition.

 

Her appointment comes at a critical time, as CUSD faces a projected 3% decline in enrollment for the upcoming school year, leading to a $12 million budget shortfall.

 

In response, the district has approved a plan to adjust staffing levels by approximately 2.2%, affecting around 122 positions, to align with the reduced student population.

 

Despite these challenges, the district remains committed to maintaining a 24:1 student-to-teacher ratio and offering competitive salaries to attract and retain top talent.

 

Patti Serrano, CUSD Governing Board President, expressed confidence in Dr. Battle's leadership, stating, "Her passion for public education, combined with her experience leading school systems, reflects the priorities our community identified throughout this process and positions our district well for the future."

 

Dr. Battle's appointment marks a new chapter for CUSD as it navigates demographic shifts and strives to uphold its reputation for educational excellence.
