An evening of live music can be as simple as packing a chair and heading to a Chandler park.

The Sonoran Sunset Series begins its new season Thursday, October 15, at Veterans Oasis Park, with free concerts continuing monthly through March.

Outside the Line opens the series from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at 4050 E. Chandler Heights Road.

For families and music lovers looking for an easy weeknight outing, the schedule offers a reason to step away from the usual evening routine.

Start with the October show

The opening band brings a mix of soulful songs from different eras, setting an upbeat tone for the season.

Admission is free, and seating is available on a first-come basis.

Bring a lawn chair or blanket so your group has a comfortable place to settle in.

The city also allows snacks and beverages in small coolers, giving you the option of combining the concert with a simple picnic.

Alcoholic beverages are not permitted, so plan your cooler accordingly.

Those details make this an outing you can tailor to your household rather than a night that requires dinner reservations and a ticket purchase.

You might come for the whole performance or use it as a way to introduce someone to a band they have never heard.

Choose a meeting place before arriving if friends are coming separately, and leave yourself time to find the concert area.

Put the rest of the season on the calendar

The series follows the third Thursday of the month, with each performance scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Dean Nelson is listed for November 19, followed by What's Left on December 17.

The new year brings Radio Replay on January 21, Pick & Holler on February 18 and Traveler on March 18.

These January, February and March dates are in 2027.

The lineup moves through different musical styles, from alternative and indie sounds to Appalachian string music and Celtic and world folk influences.

You can choose one concert or make the series a recurring outing, depending on what your household enjoys.

Saving the dates now is useful because the shows fall on Thursdays rather than a typical Friday or Saturday concert night.

Check the individual listing as each date approaches for the current program and any event updates.

Make the park setting part of the experience

Veterans Oasis Park gives the series a setting quite different from an indoor theater.

The audience can enjoy music in the open air while the evening becomes the backdrop to the performance.

That atmosphere is part of the appeal, but it also makes practical preparation worthwhile.

Bring the essentials that help your group remain comfortable outdoors, including water and something suitable for sitting.

If someone in your party has specific mobility or access needs, contact the organizer before assuming a particular seating arrangement.

Keep your setup compact and leave paths clear so people around you can move comfortably.

Families with younger children can explain what to expect before arriving and build in the option of leaving when they need to.

A successful evening does not require an elaborate plan, just enough preparation to spend your attention on the music.

Consider bringing snacks you can manage easily rather than packing a meal that takes over the entire outing.

Once the performance begins, keeping nearby conversations low helps everyone hear the musicians.

The full season offers six opportunities to enjoy local performers without an admission charge.

For Chandler residents, that is a welcome addition to a fall and winter calendar already filling with activities.

Questions about the series can be directed to 480-782-2890.

Start with Outside the Line on October 15, or choose a later date that suits your musical interests.

Pack the chair, confirm the event listing and make room for a little live music under Chandler's evening sky.
